Short Biography

Professionally trained Counsellor in practice since the year 2000. The core duty at the university is to offer counselling support services to students. Together with that core duty, the Students Counsellor is involved in students’ matters through the participation in the following committees: HIV and AIDS Prevention; Students Welfare; Financial Sub-Aid; Students Discipline; Peer Counselling Training and Support; Students Dress Code; Health, Wellness, Safety and Security and Chaplaincy Services. Currently the Patron to peer counsellors to whom peer counsellor support supervision and personal therapy is offered to peer counsellors.

Through the Departments of Education and Humanities, the lectures given in psychology-related units provided an opportunity to interact with students taking Education and Criminology and Security Studies programmes. These interactions helped the creation of students’ awareness of themselves and understanding of what counselling is. The students get to understand that counselling is confidential and non-judgemental regardless of the issue being presented or one’s orientation.  This interaction has helped in the de-stigmatization of counselling hence the students have developed a trusting therapeutic relationship making quit many going for counselling.

Currently pursuing a PhD degree in Counselling Psychology at Kisii University. Earned a Master Degree in Counselling from the University of Manchester (UK) and Bachelor of Education degree with Kenyatta University. Attained a Diploma in Addiction Counselling and Treatment Studies from Support for Addictions Prevention and Treatment in Africa (SAPTA), Higher Diploma in Counselling Studies; Counsellor Supervision and Trainer of trainers (TOT) from Kenya Association of Professional Counsellors. A trainer of professional counsellors and peer counsellors for institutions. Currently trained and working as Mediator

Worked as a High School teacher for fifteen years up to 2004 a period within which there was a rise to the position of a Principal. In 2005, went into private practice where counselling services to students and member of the public was offered up to October 2016 before joining the University of Embu as a Students Counsellor. Registered by Kenya Counsellors and Psychologists Association (KCPA) offers a guide to ethical and professional practice.
